Well the Mozart after getin India's first ever GOLDEN GLOBE award and waiting with confidence , along with a billion of hearts praying for the first ever Academy award for an INDIAN { hope dis becomes true on 23rd Feb morning } has opened his credit for this year with DELHI-6 . A movie that has the junior bachchan nd the Saawariya girl in the lead , is directed by the Rang De Basanti director Rakesh Omprakash Mehra and a host of Indian talents sharing the space with these .Well the promos being aired do nothing but just make one have a strong feeling that this movie is sure to make many move emotionally & the songs stand a rave testimony to the very same fact . It has been the Masakalli song , that is being aired in the promos ,that makes the "A.R.R"factor go high.
Getting on to the review -
Masakalli -
Vocals - Mohit Chauhan
All your money for getting this audio cd is worth a million times for this one song from the mozart . Be it the starting humming or the melodic and the rhythmic treatment WOW WOW WOW both A.R.R nd Mohit take this song to the next level .This song is ure to be played in all the music channels and the Fm stations . What i particularly luved about this song is the inintial humming part of Mohit , that keeps coming in the song couple of times .
Aarti (Tumre Bhavan Mein)-
Vocals - Rekha Bharadwaj, Kishori Gowariker, Shraddha Pandit, Sujata Mazumdar
A kind of song that seems to be missing in most of the latest hindi films , a partly devotional flavour given to this number by Rahman . This kind of song was last done by A.R.R in Mani Ratnam's tamil film Alaipayuthey , for the title track Alaipayuthey . That track had a main vocal and comparitively less hummings whereas this one has mainly hummings , with Rekha bharadwaj nd Rahman , one can expect anything , I mean it . The neo-Carnatic style vocal renderings add a midas touch to this song and the pronounciation of word Ambaa leaves you in a state of spritual bliss .May Rahman come out witha separate album with these kind of songs so that the not so pouplar religious songs can be in the limelight under the hands of the Mozart .The song's sad tone never proves to be a backstab at all , infact it makes it more luvable .
Bhor Bhaye -
Vocals - Shreya Ghoshal, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Gujri Todi
The song stands out to be a product of a purest from of Classical bliss . What a rendering by Shreya Ghoshal matchind the likes of late Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan with ease .Is this voice the same voice that captured all of us during the last two moths of last year with it's sexy rendering for the "Lattoo" song from Ghajini , what a transformation man , kudos to her and her awesome voice . Her voice is something like K.J.Yesudas , she can render any number with ease , without letting the people know the strains involved during singing .
Arziyan -
Vocals - Javed Ali, Kailash Kher
the 8 and a half minute song of this album , rendered by Kailash kher and Javed Ali with the tabla beats running throughout the song yu are able to feel the rhythm . Melody has been Rahman's forte all throughout his carrer and this one can be the writer's Ode to the Almigty . Rahman has been scoring extraordinarily when it comes to qawwali, he did the same in Jodhaa Akbar to , the very same time last year i suppose . The " Mula Meri Maula "bit makes you feel the strenght of Kailas kher nd Javed ali . This song makes one understand that Kher is one of the best singers in the country who can bring in the actual feel of the song to the listener , be it a spiritual song or a romantic one , Kher makes you fall in love with the song .
Dil Gira Dafatan -
Vocals - Ash King, Chinmayee
The very beginning of the song makes you feel the pinch of the four lettered GOD , love . Ash Kings' crooning of " Dil Mera .... Dil Mera " in the beginning and the intoduction of some stringed instuments by Rahman , make this one of the highlights of this album that is already shimmering with masterpieces from A.R.R .The ending of this song is fabulous . The song is accompanied by Chinmayee's "Kyun goonj rahee hai dhadkan " in the middle , in a husky tone .Only A.R.R uses this ability of Chinmayee , that is rarely being used by any other music directors both in tamil nd hindi . The slow tempo of the vocals show the Mozart's touch attached to it , with more importance being given to the clear pronounciation of the words which bring out the feelings .
Hey Kaala Bandar -
Vocals - Karthik, Naresh Iyer, Bony Chakravarthy
The song has the style attached to it with some satirical lyrics , with a surprising rap interlude .This song makes one feel that this film of Mehra's is not just about the journey of a man , but it has got to do something with the society too . Eventhough the song at somepoint reminded me of something else i had heard{ it could even be coz of karthik's voice, dunno exactly } still it looks refreshingly fresh with the kind of energy given away and the guitar used in the middle .
Noor -
Vocals - Amitabh bachchan
A 50 sec declamation by the big B , stating that by loving the people around you , you will be able to love GOD .The age old message being given , may be this message has something to do with this story of Mehra .
Genda Phool -
Vocals - Rekha Bharadwaj, Shraddha Pandit, Sujata Mazumdar
Well the Mozart brings back the tradition of the typical North Indian wedding or folk songs , which seemed to be dying or disappearing till this album had reached stores. Maybe Rahman has given them a new lease of life , maybe many other music directors will be following it in the near future. But the lyrics of this song don't seem to be related with any wedding issues either , maybe Mehra is having something else in his mind .
Rehna tu -
Vocals - A. R. Rahman, Benny Dayal, Tanvi Shah
A.R.Rahman has that thing in his voice to make a song hit when it is being rendered by the Mozart himself . Who can take care of a child better than his own mother ? Rahman sings it more smoothly than ever he has done . The other voices seem to disappear when Mozart sings .This song brings to our mind about every lost love and the re-incarnation of the losses in one's life . Each song of this album seems to be totally different from the other ones .Rahman has tried to touch upon different genres in this album .
Delhi 6 -
Vocals - Blaaze, Benny Dayal, Vivinenne Pocha, Tanvi Shah, Claire
The title track with the attitude stuff and the style statement sung by Blaaze , Benny etc , figured out to be a techno kind of feel , this song made me listen to it atleast more than 5 times continuously . The rendering of Tanvi in the middle "Ye Delhi Hai Mere Yaar" spices up the song ,. The song tries to catch up about the city of Delhi , in tune with the film's theme . Again a different flavour from Rahman .
On the whole it's a great beggining for the year 2009 by A.R.R , hope to see these songs on screen picturised by Mehra . Rahman has touched upon all the forgotten flavours of Hindi film music and has given a new lease of life to those genres , which were dying coz of the sudden replacement by the techno or the hip hop kind of stuffs.
Rahman makes it clear that his voice can do wonders with his own composition & has even given a classical , hindustani and a qawwali flavour to this album.
This song is sure to make all the awards given to Rahman , worth a thousand times more than what they actually are .Rahman is setting new standards and new records that are & will ever be able to be overtaken by any other genius.
Kudos to the MOZART OF MADRAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
